warren buffet buys WARREN BUFFET BUYSThe purpose of this entry is to offer a quick recap of the most recent Warren Buffet buys. Mr. Buffet is one of the richest men in the world for good reason, and he’s arguably the most successful investor of all time. But should you trade or take a short term approach based on his purchases ?
Well that is up for debate. Some scalpers and day traders often make small percentage profits by just riding the momentum when Warren Buffet buys. These astute traders basically buy on the news and sell the rip.

WARREN BUFFET BUYS Has Investors Watching

However, that isn’t the way that Buffet makes money. As most already know, timing isn’t necessarily an issue for “The Oracle of Omaha”. If Buffet thinks the underlying business is cheap he steps in on the long side. If a current position is trading at a discount and the underlying fundamentals remain intact, Buffet averages in. In other words, holding for the long haul isn’t an issue.
Here are the most recent Warren Buffet buys:
Wells Fargo (WFC:NYSE) Increased his position in this long time financial holding on 6/30/2011. penny stocks market WFC closed at $25.19 on Thursday, and currently has a market cap of $133 billion.
Mastercard (MA:NYSE) Increased his position in the electronics payment processor on 6/30/2011. MA closed at $347.94 on Thursday, and has a present market cap of $44 billion.
Verisk (VRSK:NASDAQ) Buffet started a new position in VRSK on 6/30/2011. The company closed at $34.79, and currently has a market cap of roughly $5.7 billion.
Dollar General (DG:NYSE) Buffet also started a new position in DG on 6/30/2011. Shares of DG closed at $37.39 on Thursday, and has a market cap of roughly $12.7 billion.

Morgan Stanley (MS:NYSE)Beat analysts estimates today. The CDS spread of MS also narrowed, which is a bullish signal. Shares appear to have broken out if you look at the daily charts, but the weekly’s show some resistance in the $18 range.

Godfather Media (ENKG.PK) Shares of this sub penny stock are basically flat today, but currently top the list of the most active IHUB message boards. There isn’t much news out there other than the name change that happened yesterday. However, Rule 201 is now in effect, which is a tell that naked shorts are already in the name.

Microsoft (MSFT:NASDAQ) MSFT is basically a clone of the INTC story. Both company’s have not exactly been huge movers in the last few years, but they still carry the cache to bring buyers in if the sentiment changes. A break of $31.58 would be nice for MSFT.

Freeport MacMoran (FCX:NYSE) FCX had a small beat today, and the stock is up fractionally, while copper is off sharply. penny stocks gold Just remember, no matter how cheap the stock looks, it’s usually not wise to buy an equity when the underlying commodity that it’s related to is going lower.

Intel (INTC:NASDAQ) We have highlighted this name a few different times because of the stocks’ nice yield. Today, Fast Money just did an Intel versus Apple Computer segment. Jim Cramer has also been pounding the table on INTC, so don’t be surprised if this old stodgy tech name all of of a sudden becomes trendy again.

YIPPY INC. | Penny Stocks

yipi YIPPY INC.Yippy Inc. (YIPI.PK)is an interesting story that is quite different from other penny stock scenarios. YIPI is best known for it’s search engine, which somewhat resembles Google’s homepage. As far as the stock price is concerned, YIPI has been an enigma to longs who have been in the name for the last couple of years.

Shares of YIPI closed on Tuesday at .40 cents on light volume of 77,737 shares after trading over $3 as recently as 2010. The shorter term trend has been miserable too, in July the stock was trading at $1.52.

Now YIPI is not your typical pink sheets penny stock, mainly because they are have a product that is known to many. At last check, Yippy.com was ranked 26,748 on Alexa.com, whose site monitors internet traffic. While YIPI’s Alexa ranking is fairly impressive, the traffic has not been properly monetized.

On the PR side though, YIPI has been fairly astute. penny stocks usa They issued releases involving an NFL related search engine and a deal with Gale Cengage. Both obviously big names. However, history has shown us that it’s difficult to gain traction in the highly competitive search engine space. So announcements like these tend to be more sizzle than steak.

YIPI Has Huge Upside

YIPI‘s management team also tried to put a positive spin on an event that knocked the shares down to the level that they are at today. In the simplest terms, YIPI had two outstanding promissory notes with Vivisimo Inc. that totaled $5 million. YIPI then engaged in negotiations and ironed out an agreement to give Vivisimo 2.5 million shares of restricted stock at $2 per share.

A PR was then issued by YIPI focusing on the favorable terms that they received. But ask your self this questions. Is YIPI cash poor ? And did Vivisimo take the shares with the view that something is better than nothing with the intention of selling the YIPI shares when the lockup expires and gaining a tax loss ?

These are issues that traders have to consider in the wild world of penny stocks. So at this point look for more color from us on this name. Despite the downtrend in the shares, YIPI is still senstive to news and can potentially be used as a trading vehicle.

So add YIPI to your penny stock list on a just in case basis.

S&P 500 ETF (SPY:NYSE) Everyone is starting to get excited with Friday’s rally, but question’s still remain. Headline risk out of Europe still looms large, and even if the outcome of this mess is positive, we still could see institutions sell a gap up open Monday AM. On a risk/reward basis it might be wise for investors who don’t have a value or longer term view to stay on the sidelines.

Chipolte Mexican Grill (CMG:NYSE) The continued rise of CMG is causing quite a stir. CMG represents the typical smart money on both sides trade. Today’s Jim Cramer versus Herb Greenberg debate was classic, and Cramer has been on the money with CMG for a while. Still the charts might be telling us a different story, despite CMG‘s fast food niche. We are nearing double top territory and a blow off rally could interest new shorts, or bears who were blown up at lower prices and are just looking to revisit the trade.

JP Morgan (JPM:NYSE) JPM is a usual suspect on our stocks in play list. Mainly because of it’s influence on the financials which consequently weigh heavily on the broader averages. During earnings season, the banks have come up a little bit short, andJPM‘s performance today is somewhat concerning. In simpler terms, JPM should be trading better with the Dow and S&P ripping the way they are today. However, a close over 34. e cig penny stocks 10 or so on heavy volume could bring some swing traders in.

Potash (POT:NYSE)I know we mention the Ag’s on a frequent basis, an I apologize if you are getting sick of hearing about them. However, some long only commodity types have used this group to hide out. As evidenced in the basing pattern of POT‘s chart. A break of $50.73 on heavy volume could make POT a prop trading favorite again.

5 Stocks to Watch | Penny Stocks

Here are list of stocks to watch on Monday. The range from penny stocks to large caps and may be in play on either a long or short basis.

IShares Silver Trust (SLV:NYSE) Silver is once again up huge in the pre-market. The $50 psyche number is starting to look like it actually might come into play. Even after this massive run, shares of SLV could have some sympathy based impact on Silver based penny stocks, on both the pink sheets and bulletin board. Also, it’s likely that shorts have placed buy stop orders above that $50 mark.

Entropic Communications (ENTR:NASDAQ) This always volatile and heavily shorted stock is trending on Yahoo’s Market Pulse function. ENTR remains a great vehicle for both longs and shorts and isn’t on many firms’ hard to borrow list. Shares have the ability to swing 1+ points in a day even though the stock is under $10. Add this one to your list, but trade it carefully if you decide to act.

Quasar Aerospaces (QASP.PK) As always, we try to highlight the top penny stock message board on IHUB. penny stocks quebec Mainly because the stock in the top slot often makes a decent percentage move the next trading day. Sometimes that move is up and often it’s down. Either way, shares of QASP will probably see some activity from the sub penny stocks crowd.

Kimberly Clark (KMB:NYSE) Day traders will probably play this frequently today based on earnings. Shares of KMB are down pre market and the bias might remain negative in the short term if a slew of downgrades come. However, there seems to be decent support in the 61ish area. KMB cited higher materials costs being the main cog in the earnings miss.

Silver Wheaton (SLW:NYSE) This one has appeared on this list of stocks before. Shares of the silver streamer have pulled back a little from the year high, but today’s breakout on the SLV could restart SLW’s move higher. If you don’t like ETF’s, SLW is a great alternative to actually buying the physical metal, or silver penny stocks.

Raystream (RAYS:OB) is an interesting play, despite it’s extremely young chart. RAYS has only showed legitimate volume for roughly a week, but some in the penny stock community are already anointing it the next Lithium Exploration Group (LEXG.OB).There are rumors that the same players are behind both deals, but for now it might be best to watch the tape action on Raystream for the next few sessions.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the LEXG reference, let me give you a few blurbs of information. Although LEXG proved to be little more than a lithium shell company, with some very fluffy PR’s, shares exploded to the upside and provided savvy investors with access to what proved to be one of the greatest trading vehicles in the last few years. However, those longs who were once green on the rade and others who bought at the top were smashed. Both quickly and violently

Raystream on the Forefront

Now let me give you a few details on Raystream. They company has it’s headquarters in Dallas,Texas and is in the business of bringing a proprietary video compression technology to individuals and businesses. The goal of RAYS is to decrease bandwidth use and to maximize speed in regards to online streaming.

On a fundamental basis, shares of Raystream do look a little expensive. The market cap is roughly $78million and they only have a little more than $2million in cash with slightly more in debt. So keep in mind that a double from these levels puts the company in the valuation neighborhood that small caps with earnings and revenue growth usually reside. RAYS has neither at this point.

Does that mean Raystream can’t work for penny stock longs ? Absolutely not. Those who followed our LEXG profiles and alerts were put in a position to do well, and those who used the name purely as a trading vehicle were rewarded handsomely. You should use the same short term philosophy with Raystream if you happen to decide to go long.

From a trading perspective, on it’s first day of the recent run, Raystream traded at a low of $1.05 four sessions ago. Today shares hit $1.70, and closed at $1.627 to show a small gain for the day. However, the dollar volume was impressive, eclipsing $5.8million which is enormous for any penny stock.

So at this point, even though we generally give support and resistance levels on most names, you have to throw the charts out the window with Raystream, and to some degree fly blind. If a massive promotion begins and the same cast of characters from LEXG is behind RAYS, then you could see a nice trading vehicle emerge. If not, you could be looking at a dead penny stock for a long time. So watch the PR’s and more importantly the volume, and add Raystream (RAYS:OB) to your penny stock list for the time being.

Thursday Stocks in Play AAPL, JAMN

MetLife (MET:NYSE) Had a nice bounce today after hitting a 52 week low on Tuesday. Shares of MET were up over 6% on Wednesday, but the volume looked like there was some short covering involved. If you are bullish on the insurance companies, take a peek at our AIG Warrants entry.

Apple Computer (AAPL:NASDAQ) It’s hard to get excited about a rally when AAPL under performs the broader averages on light volume. Sit tight on AAPL for now if you have a short term time frame. Plus, there is some resistance in the $390 area.

Applied Materials (AMAT:NASDAQ)Back in the day, AMAT was a one decision stock. But recently, shares were starting to look like a value trap, especially after lowering guidance. AMAT has been dead for some time, but has built a decent base near these levels and pays nearly a 3% dividend. Add AMAT to you list of stocks.

Jammin Java (JAMN:OB) I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but JAMN is currently dead. Add news like Rohan Marley’s salary to he mix, and you have the potential for a dead penny stock. The name still has some interest because so many people own it higher, but the tape action looks worse and worse. Watch the downside gap fill at .71 cents and add JAMN to your penny stock list.

Washington Mutual (WAMUQ.PK)Forget the fundamentals with WAMUQ, just watch the news flow and charts. We highlighted the crucial 7 cent level in a previous entry, and that’s where WAMUQ closed on Wednesday. This level should act as support, but if it breaks, a re-test of year lows could be in the mix.

sub penny stocks SUB PENNY STOCKSSub penny stocks are attractive to a fairly wide group of investors, but remain extremely dangerous when the buyer has a longer term approach. Don’t get me wrong, there are savvy traders who make decent living scalping sub penny stocks for fractional profits on ETrade and other discount firms everyday. But does that mean everyone can do it ? Absolutely not.
Last Friday, here at PSE, we alerted our subscribers to a technology sub penny stocks name. The company was Findex.com (FIND.OB) and it was simply a fallen, broken down stock. So you are probably asking yourself why we issued an alert ? Well it’s pretty simple. We understand that some penny stocks should be treated as pure trading vehicles. Especially sub penny stock names. We also realize that most of the investors who make money trading these speculative names are not novice investors. This is why we try to provide a game plan when issuing sub penny stocks alerts. For instance, while we felt that FIND had some upside on a short term trading basis, we instructed our subscribers not to buy the initial gap up in the shares. Those who followed our guidance were handsomely rewarded. We also preach that traders should take fast, smaller profits to reduce risk. Now this stragey obviously limits upside, but buying gaps and holding on for too long is often a recipe for disaster. It usually doesn’t matter if you are buying General Electric (GE:NYSE) or the latest hot penny stock.

These mistakes are often amplified when trading sub penny stocks because of the sheer share amount owned by traders and the wide percentage based spreads. The large share size that can be obtained for a small cash outlay can also dangerous for buyers of sub penny stocks. Investors often forget that the names didn’t intentionally try to be priced at such low levels, and are trading at such low levels for a reason. These companies can also possibly see further dilution or even a reverse split.

So keep in mind that successful traders of sub penny stocks often just make their money sitting on the bid and then catching some momentum with the hopes that they can unload their position on the offer or ask price or hopefully a little bit higher. Remember that trading such low priced securities is a dangerous game, so the sidelines are sometimes the best place to be unless you have a plan.

Check back with us at PSE because we are currently scanning a list for our next potential winner in the sub penny stocks area.

Unusual Volume | Penny Stocks

Here are some stocks that are up on unusual volume today. The names and symbols are listed below:

ETrade (EFTC:NASDAQ) Shares are currently up over 15% on monster volume due to Citadel requesting for ETFC to consider selling the company. Keep in mind Citadel has been a seller in Etrade’s last two secondary offerings.

Intuitive Surgical (ISRG:NASDAQ) Shares of ISRG are up on unusual volume today due to strong earnings. Many of you may know this company as a constant takeover candidate (JNJ rumors) and others know it as a Porter Stansbury home run. At these levels though, it seems like the low hanging fruit is almost gone.

Arm Holdings (ARMH:NASADQ) Shares of ARMH are also up on unusual volume due to sympathy from Apple Computer’s (AAPL:NASDAQ) strong numbers. Regardless of your bias ARMH might be the single best way for a small account to participate in AAPL news without using margin.

Td Ameritrade (AMTD:NASDAQ) Shares are up a little more than 5% in sympathy of the EFTC news of a potential sale. This is exactly the type of trade that can reverse on longs quickly. So be careful.

Tesla Motors (TSLA:NASDAQ) Shares of TSLA are up on unusual volume due to a deal with Toyota (TM:NYSE). Tesla does have the potential to become a short squeeze candidate, but remember that concept stocks often due not do well in down markets.

unusual volume1 Unusual Volume

Here are some stocks that have moved on Unusual Volume during today’s session. The names and symbols are listed below.

InterDigital (IDCC:NASDAQ) Shares of IDCC have gapped up and rallied fiercely on news that their BOD has undergone strategic alternatives to shop the company. IDCC was up double digits at one point today, but seemed to be faded by shorts. Still at the time of this entry, the stock is up over 20%.

WebMD Health Corp. (WBMD:NASDAQ) Shares of WBMD have bounced nicely today after lowering guidance on heavier than normal volume. It’s probably not wise to jump in yet, but keep WBMD on you bounce candidate list of Unusual Volume.

Unusual Volume Soars

News Corp. (NWS:NYSE) Shares of NWS have recovered a little bit today. But is this a mini dead cat bounce ? We highlighted NWS today in our Stocks to Watch segment, but wanted to touch on the name again because of the Unusual Volume. Remember, there is a ton of smart money on both sides of this trade.

Travelzoo (TZOO:NASDAQ) According to skeptics, this stock is currently priced to perfection, hence the large short interest position. However, the stock seems to be in favor and we all know what a short squeeze looks like. Watch TZOO’s earnings for further direction, but play small regardless of your bias. Unusual Volume is telling somebody something.

Apple Computer (AAPL:NASDAQ) Shares of AAPL have acted nicely for longs recently, and some bulls have eyes for the $400 handle. Keep in mind that when AAPL has Unusual Volume both shorts and longs pay attention. Keep AAPL on you list of large cap tech stocks.

STOCKS vs. BONDS | Penny Stocks

stocks vs. bonds STOCKS vs. BONDSStocks vs. bondshas been a debate for the ages. Mainly because risk averse investors generally look for stability and yield and more speculative investors trend towards stocks and their potentially dynamic returns.

Well which asset class is better ? That depends on market conditions. Recently for instance, some retail investors and institutions have moved towards safety as the stock market imploded. Consequently, bond prices have been driven up and yields have gone lower.

At this point it remains extremely difficult for anyone who is seeking a reasonable dividend stream to obtain it unless they purchase fixed income products that are either very risky or have ridiculously long maturities.

Does this recent trend signal stock market capitulation ? Maybe not, but we might be close. Because of the reduced rates, income oriented buyers are being forced to look at investments on the equity side that they normally would stay away from. Utility stocks and proven Dow names with reliable dividends seem to be fashionable currently for these super conservative buyers.

Now there is an old market saying that states that selling begets selling. Common sense tells me that the inverse is true as well. If the stocks vs. bonds ratio is out of the norm for income investors, then bond buyers might have to bite the bullet and turn to income stocks. The money market rates have simply left them no other alternative.

STOCKS vs. BONDS Argument Continues

In times like these you have to ask yourself one question. Is it worth going out 25 or 30 years on a maturity basis to capture the returns you are used to in a corporate bond that is marginally investment grade ?

Well that is the decision that many are faced with, so don’t be surprised if you start to see Wall St. flood the market with new hybrid products that resemble balanced funds and are mixed with low yielding bonds and high paying dividend stocks. Believe me when I tell you, somebody as I speak, is figuring some marketing plan to take advantage of the current stocks vs. bonds debate.

If you are an income investor, better judgment is probably telling you not to rush funds heavily into either side of this argument. However, you probably have heard or read that the U.S. has been turning into Japan for the last 15 years as well. So it’s basically a tough decision right now. The best way to play this on an income orientated basis might be simply by watching Europe. I know I am stating the obvious, but panicking into a longer term bond, just because of uncertainty and lust for yield can cost you in the long run.

Owning a 30 year piece of paper in a rising interest rate environment isn’t pleasant. Even if takes 5 years to actually happen. So check back for more color on this situation, and monitor some different income bearing equities. The outcome is this stocks vs. bonds discussion is iffy, but I can guarantee you one thing, this debate will go on forever.
